No cost to K-12 teachers.

This unique professional development opportunity will feature keynote speaker Karen Korematsu, Founder and Executive Director of the Fred T. Korematsu Institute for Civil Rights. She will describe local and national stories about the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II and the Supreme Court Case that followed.

The training will also include a tour of the Japanese American National Museum, historical overview, information about the “assembly centers” in California, and the personal stories of those affected by the incarceration experience.
Lesson plans and classroom resources will be distributed for elementary,
middle, and high school students.

All registered attendees will be eligible to participate in an all-day excursion to the 46th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage near Lone Pine, California on Saturday, April 25, 2015. $25 registration fee to attend the Manzanar Pilgrimage will include round-trip bus transportation from the Los Angeles County Office of Education, access to Manzanar grounds and Interpretative Center, ceremonies, and light refreshments.
