Joan Bain Named 2013 California History Teacher of the Year

04 Jun 2013 7:40 AM | Dr. Margaret Hill (Administrator)
The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and Preserve America have named Inland Empire fifth grade teacher Joan Bain as the 2013 California History Teacher of the Year. In March Joan received the CCSS 2013 Outstanding Elementary Social Studies Teacher award.  In addition to her work at Camino Real Elementary School in the Jurupa Unified School District, she has served as the Riverside/San Bernardino Counties Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute Facilitator for almost a decade.

A panel of teachers, administrators, and academics from California chose Mrs Bain to receive the award based on her use of primary documents in the classroom, the level of inspiration that she provides to her students, and her career achievements in education.

She will receive a $1,000 award, a certificate of recognition, an archive of books and historical resources presented in her name for the school library, and an invitation to attend a 2014 Gilder Lehrman Teacher Seminar.  She will also be recognized at a ceremony.

Congratulations and best wishes from all of us in the Inland Empire Council for Social Studies on your terrific achievement.
